The Two

Detta är en helt ny modell som Gossamer Gear släppte i december 2020 allmänt kallad The Two Model 2021. Följande uppdateringar har skett:

• Väven har uppdaterats till en 10D SIL/PU istället för 15D SIL/PU. Detta medför att tältet som helhet har blivit ganska mycket lättare. Närmare bestämt 224 gram lättare och landar nu på mäktiga 667 gram. 
• Den nya väven har också högre vattenpelare. 1800 mm mot tidigare 1200 mm.
• Gossamer Gear har dragit ned på dimensionerna. Det får ändå klassas som ett relativt rymligt två-personstält men GG har dragit ned på höjd, bredd och längd. GG påpekar dock att det ska få plats två stycken 63 cm breda liggunderlag.
• Ny tätare dragkedja till ingången/absiden. GG hävdar att den är vattentät (waterproof). Det är den inte. Den är sköljsäker eller vad man också kallar water resistant.
• Förbättrad ventilation i både huvud- och fotända för minskad kondensbildning.
• Det kommer nu med en kläd-/organiseringslina, ej monterad.
• Dörren vid huvudändan har numera två infästningar att fästas i vid ihoprullning/öppning istället för en. Detta för att minska fladdret vid vind.

Gossamer Gear The Two är ett enkelväggstält. Det vill säga att det inte har ett innertält som de flesta är vana vid. För dig som inte har erfarenhet av enkelväggstält tidigare innebär det här följande skillnader mot ett tält som har ett inner- och yttertält:

• Enkelväggstält blir lättare men kan fortfarande ge ett fullgott skydd.
• Enkelväggstält kan inte behålla värme lika bra. 
• I enkelväggstält märker man mer av kondens.

I och med att Gossamer Gear tillverkat The Two som ett ryggåstält får man ett rymligt tält till låg vikt. Stavarna (eller stängerna som finns som tillbehör) sätts till 125cm vilket ger närmare 109 cm i takhöjd vilket gör att detta tält passar även hyfsat långa personer. 

The Two har två ingångar med två dörrar vardera. Man kan konfigurera dörrarna på lite olika sätt beroende på väder och önskade ventilationsmöjligheter. Man kan ha båda dörrarna öppna, stängda eller ha en dörr öppen. För att vara ett lätt tvåmanstält har The Two relativt stora absider. Du får lätt plats med packningen utan att det blir jobbigt att ta sig in och ut ur tältet. Ingångarna har väggar och dörrar av myggnät. Två ingångar betyder mycket bättre ventilationsmöjligheter än om man bara har en dörr. Speciellt med tanke på att båda väggarna innanför dörrarna bara består av myggnät.

Vill man ha ytterligare skydd mot vind kan man helt sonika sänka stavarna så att väggarna och dörrarna kommer närmare marken och dra ned kortsidorna mot marken. Då får man dock leva med mer kondens i och med att ventilationen blir sämre.

Det krävs ett minimum av sex tältpinnar för uppsättning. Ytterligare tio tältpinnar behövs om du vill spänna ut botten och ha fullt skydd vid mycket vind. Det medföljer 8 stycken markpinnar. Notera att stänger dock inte följer med tältet vid köp. Har du ställbara stavar behöver du inga stänger.

The Two är tillverkat av SilNylon. Om man jämför det med Dyneema Composite Fabric kan man säga följande:

• SilNylon tälten är billigare och nästan lika lätta.
• Dyneema tälten är generellt lite stabilare i vind (beroende på konstruktion så klart). 
• SilNylon sträcker sig när det blir blött vilket innebär att man får eftersträcka stormlinorna. 
• Man ser inte lika lätt genom SilNylonväven. Det gör man genom de flesta Dyneematält. Är du exibitionist väljer du med fördel Dyneema. 
• Dyneematälten är lite slitstarkare (av vår erfarenhet). 
• SilNylon tält är tystare i regn. 
• SilNylon är mer packbart vilket generellt innebär mindre packvolym.

Betänk att detta är ett lättviktstält i lättviktsmaterial. För att få så lång livslängd som möjligt rekommenderar vi å det starkaste att skaffa ett skyddsunderlag i till exempel Tyvek eller Polycryo för att skydda botten. Både Tyvek och Polycryo är lätt och billigt.

Vi tycker Gossamer Gear The Two är ett prisvärt, lätt, rymligt, välbyggt tält med liten packvolym.

Här kommer Gossamer Gears beskrivning över hur du ska sätta upp tältet:

”Setup
Select a site that is level, and has sufficient room to stake out the tent. We recommend V-stakes for maximum holding power on the front and rear guy lines, and stakes appropriate for anticipated conditions for the four tent corners. If possible, stake one of the ends into the prevailing winds, rather than the front or the back. Stake the two corners on one side so that they are about 3-4 feet apart, at approximate 45 degrees to the tent. Make sure the corner guy lines are at half to ¾ length free, for maximum ventilation and to allow you room to tighten them. Walk to the other side of the tent, and pull those two corners against the first two you just set, and stake them down, again at 3-4 feet apart at approximately 45 degrees to the tent.

Next, put in the rear pole (either your trekking pole set to 125 cm, or segmented tent poles if you purchased those), with the handle of the trekking pole at the top, and the tip of the pole slipped into the grommet tab provided. Stake the tent out so that the pole leans slightly out. Then put in the front pole, top up and tip into the grommet tab provided, zip up the vestibule, and stake it out, again so that the pole leans out at a slight angle. Adjust the front and rear guy lines so that the ridgeline is taut, and the poles both lean out at about the same angle. Then go around the four corners, and tighten the lines to provide a taut setup with no wrinkles.

The bathtub floor can just hang, but if desired, you can take four additional hook stakes to stake out the four corners of the floor. The 10-denier nylon floor is reasonably durable for it’s weight, but to prolong the life of your shelter, you may want to place either a polycryo ground sheet or a nylon ground sheet under the tent.

Special Case – Windy Conditions
Since The Two is a roomy tent, it also presents a pretty high profile to winds. Thus, if you can find a more sheltered area, this will be helpful in windy weather. Depending on the stakes you brought, ground conditions, and wind speed, you may want to put large rocks over the stakes to help them hold. The Two has 6 additional pullouts (black with reflective stripes) which can be used to attach additional guy lines to for more support in windy conditions. If you anticipated unusually windy conditions, we recommend you prepare 2 – 4 lines by cutting 5-foot long lengths and tying loops in each end. This way, should you find yourself in windy conditions, you can easily loop them onto the black tieouts and stake them out. In windy conditions, you may choose to stake the two corners on the windy side all the way to the ground, to minimize the intrusion of the wind into the shelter.

Use
The large mesh pocket on the rear wall is provided to keep your small items from getting lost inside the tent. There is a small, movable loop on the clothesline located in the ridge, which you can use to hang a flashlight from for reading or other nighttime activities requiring light. The roomy vestibule provides a sheltered area to keep your gear, shoes, etc. without taking up interior space in the tent. In fair conditions, the vestibule can be furled for better views and ventilation. Since The Two is a single-wall shelter to save weight, it is prone to condensation in certain conditions. More ventilation (staking the corners high, leaving the vestibule open) will generally minimize condensation. In the case of condensation, you can just use a handkerchief to wipe down the shelter, then take it out during your lunch break to air out.

Care
After returning from a trip, use a damp cloth to remove dirt and debris from your Two, and allow it to fully dry before stowing it.”
